Community Remembers Fallen Officer

One year ago today, friends, family and a community suffered the loss of Deputy U.S. Marshal Josie Wells.
Wells was killed on this day while serving an arrest warrant to a man wanted for first-degree murder. Wells was from Hurley, Mississippi. He attended East Central High School where Jackson County resident Virginia Johnson worked for 25 years. She tells News 25 she remembers him as a good, hardworking student who grew up to be a hardworking, respectable man. “Great family, I knew his mom and daddy real well. He was such a good person and that just breaks your heart that a thug could just kill him like that. So sad but he was a great person.”
Wells left behind a wife who was pregnant at the time of his death. Josie Wells Jr. is named after his father.
