Community backpack handout at Import Performance in Gulfport

As students prepare to head back to school, Gulfport businesses and organizations helped equip children with some classroom essentials.

Earlier this evening at Import Performance, over 100 book bags with school supplies were handed out. All of the supplies were donated by local business owners.

In less than 20 minutes, all the book bags were distributed. However, with the help of another Coast organization, supplies were still able to be given out. Import Performance Owner Pamela Jones said, “Feeding the Gulf Coast, they came in and they did an awesome job of donating over 100 bags as well. And they had school supplies and we were able to fill them up again. So, we truly thank Feeding the Gulf Coast. Katie, for saying yes we will do this with you.”

Event sponsor Nakisha Henderson said, “This can be a trying time for a lot of single parents or just parents in general. Last year with COVID, that really put everybody in a bind. And we know that a lot of people saying people receive so much additional funds, why do this? You know, why not? When you have the opportunity to reach out and serve and give, why not?”

Jones hopes to make the backpack giveaway an annual event.
