Cold weather shelters opening

Cold weather shelters on the Coast are gearing up for a potential hard freeze tonight.

Anytime temperatures drop to 35 degrees or below, the Mississippi Gulf Coast Area Command Office in Gulfport opens it shelters. Doors open at 4 p.m.

You must have a photo ID, be willing to take a breathalyzer test, and be checked for weapons before entering. There are separate sections for men and women to sleep. The command office will try their best to accommodate everyone looking for a place to stay.

The Salvation Army on 22nd Street in Gulfport will open its doors at 4 this afternoon and plan to open tomorrow night as well.

The multi-purpose building at the D’Iberville Civic Center will also open its doors this evening.
