Cold weather safety for your pets
With some of the coldest air of the season headed to South Mississippi, it’s important to remember your pets.
According to animal healthcare professionals, temperatures falling into the mid-40s can be problematic for outside pets, but if you can’t bring your pets in it is important to make sure they always have access to unfrozen drinking water and are fed well. Katie King with the Humane Society of South Mississippi said, “Just make sure to have an insulated warm house for them. Be sure to put hay or straw down because the plastic will freeze and actually make them colder. So if you have straw and hay handy to fill that house up that will keep them warm and insulated, extra blankets you have and dog beds you can put in there as well, that’s always great.”
Officials want to remind pet owners if it’s too cold for you outside it’s probably too cold for your pets.
