Coca-Cola Plantation Fire

The abandoned Coca-Cola plantation in Bay St. Louis went up in flames this morning, destroying all four stories of the property.
The Bay St. Louis Fire Department was called to the scene about 5 o’clock this morning. With the help of Bayside and Clermont Harbor firefighters, they were able to control the blaze with no injuries. Flames and smoke were active hours later.
Officials say this vacant property has given them problems in the past. Fire Captain Troy Buck said, “Fortunately, it’s a vacant property. At least, we believe it to be at this time. Hopefully there’s no loss of life. We’ve had several incidents recently over the last few years involving this property. Right now, let’s just hope it’s a property loss. That’s what we’re counting on.”
The property was abandoned after Hurricane Katrina. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
