Coastal Region Transportation Summit

Transportation officials as well as local, state, and federal leaders met at the Golden Nugget in Biloxi today to discuss important transportation issues across the Coast.

Topics discussed during the Coastal Regional Transportation Summit include panel discussions on future transportation needs on the Coast and how transportation can serve as an economic catalyst in communities.

Current U.S. Secretary of Transportation Elaine Chao served as the keynote speaker and announced a $4.3 million grant for the Southern Rail Commission to help restore passenger rail from New Orleans to Mobile through the Gulf Coast. Senator Roger Wicker said, “My hat is off to the people who wrote the grant applications and certainly we appreciate the secretary understanding and seeing it like we do.”

Chao also announced Mississippi as one of 18 states selected to receive grant money to repair 12 bridges across the state as part of the Competitive Highway Bridge Program.
