Coast Transit Authority Ribbon Cutting

The Gulf Coast is going green, one bus at a time.
This afternoon, the Coast Transit Authority cut the ribbon on six new hybrid buses that will run through Biloxi, Gulfport and Keesler Air Force Base.
The slowing down of the bus is what creates energy to power the battery. In return, that saves money. The Coast will see 20 percent in fuel savings with these new rides.
These buses were paid for with the rest of the Katrina money and they will last over 12 years. Gulfport Mayor Billy Hewes said, “It’s just another addition to the fleet of services that are offered to our folks, particularly people who are dependent on public transit. These are hybridized, there’s kind of a green approach to it, which helps the environment. It’s in keeping with the direction that we’re going from the recycling efforts to just cutting down on emissions.”
You can see these buses making their way down the roads of South Mississippi in the days to come.
