Coast Native and Son Co-Author “Not Invited”
It all started with a marker, some Bounty paper towels, and a dream. Now, Moss Point native Dwylett Montgomery and her nine-year-old son Kellen are published authors of “Not Invited.”
The book launched October of 2015 and covers realistic and sensitive topics for young kids including bullying, exclusion among friends, and going through a grieving process, all in the perspective of a child.
The two travel around the country and read “Not Invited” to other kids. Montgomery tells News 25 the children are the ones who become an open book. “It’s amazing to me when we tell them what it is that we’re doing and why we created kids reality books, that we’re looking to help other kids, not just in the city or in their school district but globally. They open up and they want to help. They start sharing their stories and it’s amazing to me and it’s like there’s nothing too small or nothing too embarrassing.”
Montgomery and her son will be reading “Not Invited” in Moss Point from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. during the city’s Reading on the River event.
