Winter Classics Comes to an End

The horses have officially left the building. Trainers, competitors and their prized horses hit the road as the 2016 Gulf Coast Winter Classics came to an end.

The six week competition closed with the event’s final contests. While the Classics are over, event coordinators are very pleased with this year’s turnout. They tell News 25 for spectators they had at least 800 to 1,200 spectators a week. The competition also saw about 2,800 to 3,000 riders on horseback strutting their stuff for the judges. Gulf Coast Winter Classic Events Coordinator Janet McCarroll said, “It went really well. We were really proud of the number of people we had come to participate. Our spectator’s crowds were huge. It was just a really good six-week event. That’s why we move out so fast because everyone is moving on to the next competition. We have one that starts in Atlanta tomorrow and Houston the day after. These people are chasing some national attention.”

McCarroll went on to tell News 25 that preparations for the 2017 Classics have already started.
