Class 4A South State Preview: East Central
In the other dugout is an East Central team that’s out for payback after losing out on its first district crown since 2016.
Overall, the Hornets have made six South State appearances dating back to 2008, three of which have come under the watch of head coach Bo Long. As it pertains to this year, the region 8 runners up only lost to three teams all season, Vancleave being the one they really want back.
So, it’s revenge the Hornets are after on the eve of South State, a rematch Head Coach Bo Long prophesized back on March 29th. East Central RHP Brad Cumbest said, “We wanted them for South State, nobody else. We wanted them.”
East Central Catcher Louis Morgan said, “Oh, we want it bad. It is revenge, this is revenge.”
East Central 1B Dawson ‘Bubba’ Hall said, “We knew that we had to keep winning to play them in South State, that’s what we were waiting for.”
“I told our guys in the huddle at their field when they beat us in Game 2 of our series and I said the South State championship is going to be fun, and here we are. I felt all along that it would come down to us two for the South State title,” said Coach Long.
Coach Long says that 15 of his 21 players also played for the 4A state championship in football back in December.
