City of Gulfport names Chris Ryle new police chief

The City of Gulfport has announced that Deputy Chief Chris Ryle has been selected as the next chief of police for the city, succeeding retiring Chief Leonard Papania.

In a statement, Mayor Billy Hewes says “Ryle has faithfully served the City of Gulfport over the past 22 years. He brings a strong work ethic, internal knowledge, professional integrity, and dedication to serving Gulfport’s residents all of which are essential to this role.”

The ratification for this appointment has been placed on the agenda for the upcoming city council meeting.
