City of Moss Point is moving forward with water meter lawsuit

Moss Point is moving forward with its lawsuit against a water company.

At the direction of Mayor Mario King, at the end of April the city filed suit against McNeil Rhoads, Chris McNeil, Mueller System, and Mueller Water Products.

The city claims it paid the defendants $8.5 million to install a system that would “pay for itself.” The lawsuit alleges the defendants misrepresented the savings that would come from installing the project.

Mayor King says the city is awaiting its day in court. “Our goal is to really look at the fraudulent nature of the contract that was there and the promises that were made and that we recoup our money based on the energy efficient savings and those are the types of things that are outlined in the lawsuit. If you look at the lawsuit and the nature of the lawsuit it’s very specific.”

The city has obtained both local and out of state counsel to pursue its claims.
