City of Gulfport splash pads staying open longer

If you have been outside lately, you know it is hot. The City of Gulfport has noticed, too.

That’s why they decided to extend the city’s splash pad closing until the Monday after Cruisin’ The Coast. They normally close down the splash pads after Labor Day.

Gulfport citizens voiced their opinion via Facebook, saying the heat was too much to close the pads. So, Gulfport PIO LaShaundra McCarty spoke with city leaders and ultimately decided it would be better to keep the splash pads open.

It will also give Cruisin’ tourists a chance to enjoy them. “Our citizens matter. Their voices matter. I am glad that people felt like ‘Hey, we care about this’ so let’s at least voice it, otherwise it just becomes a conversation that people have in the community that the city isn’t aware of.  It was really hard to argue against giving children an opportunity to be outside as opposed to sitting in front of a television.”

The City of Gulfport also wants to remind its citizens that there is also a city pool for the little ones and adults to cool off in.
