Citizens Alliance of Mississippi calls for legislators to sign a medical marijuana pledge

A new organization, the Citizens Alliance of Mississippi, calls for legislators to sign a medical marijuana pledge.

The organization was formed so that legislators will support a medical marijuana bill with a free market like Initiative 65 had.

If signed, it means the next bill will have no licensing caps or requirements for minimum net worth to own or operate in the industry.

Initiative 65, which allowed qualified individuals to use medical marijuana, was shot down by the supreme court back in May because of the state’s outdated initiative process. The ruling was upsetting to many as it had 74% voter approval.

Leading the organization is former Ocean Springs Mayor Shea Dobson and he hopes that by getting lawmakers to sign this pledge, a medical marijuana bill like Initiative 65 will be passed when a special session is called. “People are really fed up with Jackson. They’re fed up with the political process and frankly with my term as mayor I saw that up close and personal. So, I felt that this organization, this pledge was necessary to make sure that our voices are heard loud and clear.”
