Circuit Court Judge Race Heats Up Before Nov. Election

With less than six weeks until the November election, there are many races on the minds of Gulf Coast residents. One race, for Circuit Court Judge, is starting to heat up.

Chris Schmidt, Myles Sharp, and Robert Fant Walker are all running in the hopes of being the next Circuit Court Judge to serve Harrison, Hancock, and Stone Counties. Schmidt, a Pass Christian resident, has years of civil and criminal courtroom experience. He served in the Assistant District Attorney’s office and now works in a law firm in Gulfport. Schmidt says his experience as a lawyer has had a lasting impression on not only those he’s defended, but those he’s prosecuted.

Schmidt says, “And he told me his name and it started coming back to me. He says, ‘I want to thank you.’ I said, ‘What to do you want to thank me for?’ He said, ‘You made sure I went to the penitentiary and I want to thank you for that.’ And as I thought about it some more, I remember his case. It had been several years before that.”

While Schmidt is committed to justice, he supports drug court and other rehabilitation programs as sentences for non-violent and first-time offenders. He believes his experience in the courtroom makes him the most qualified person for the position.
