Chevron doubling local oil processing output with crude oil from Venezuela

PASCAGOULA, Miss. (WXXV)- One South Mississippi refinery is ramping up operations as it continues processing crude oil from Venezuela, part of a broader effort that could eventually help ease gas prices for Americans.

Chevron’s Pascagoula Refinery has been handling Venezuelan crude for more than a year. Prior to the recent regime change, it was processing around 50,000 barrels per day.

Chevron officials tell WXXV that number has now doubled to roughly 100,000 barrels daily.

These increased imports are already helping ease pressure on fuel prices, especially as global oil costs surge due to ongoing conflict overseas.

Chevron is one of only a few along the Gulf Coast equipped to process heavy crude, has even been operating around the clock to handle shipments from Venezuela.
