Cheer Zone Athletics heads to D2 Summit

Cheer Zone Athletics from Saucier is flipping themselves into the nation’s most prestigious cheerleading competition for small gyms, making history on the Gulf Coast as the first Mississippi Gulf Coast team to head to the D2 Summit.

This competition is held at Walt Disney World Resort’s ESPN Wide World of Sports and they’ll be competing this weekend, May 11th through the 13th.

Tonight, three teams from Cheer Zone Athletics put on their last practice performance for their families before they took off to Orlando.

Shelia Perry, owner of the gym, tells News 25 they have been working hard since last year to earn this bid in order for them to land a spot in this year’s summit. “We’re real excited. We want to just try to get it to the next ground. We know it’s going to be really stiff competition, but we are so excited and we’re just more excited for this opportunity for these young kids. This may be the highlight of their entire cheer career.”

Cheerleader Jadyn Carrillo said, “We are going to kill it. I’m ready for it. It might be nerve wracking, but we’re ready.”
