Charles R. Hegwood Community Market is open in Biloxi

The Charles R. Hegwood Community Market is now open for the season under the I-10 overpass on Howard Avenue.

The market has been going on for 49 years in memory of Coach Hegwood, who started the market after retiring from Biloxi High School.

Thirty-two vendors showed up with produce, home baked goods, jewelry, plants, and more.

The market will be open every Tuesday and Thursday from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. The market is also having mini festivals in conjunction with the regular market throughout the season that will have food trucks, informational vendors from organizations, and a band. Biloxi Market Manager Tina Cowart said, “We do have some vendors actually here that grow their own produce, but it’s even hitting them when they have to go out and produce it. The vendors down here try to give the best prices they possibly can. It’s the atmosphere that I think sells it.”

For more information on the market, you can look on their Facebook or call the Parks and Recreation Department at 228-388-2443.
