Charges dropped for 1 of 6 suspects in Vancleave shooting that injured a 17-year-old

VANCLEAVE, Miss. (WXXV) — Charges have been dropped against one of six suspects in what authorities say appears to be a drug-related shooting that injured a 17-year-old teenager.

20-year-old Dequante Gillett of Moss Point was released from the Jackson County Adult Detention Center on January 7th.

Gillett and the other five people were all charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon in a December 21st shooting in Vancleave.

Jackson County Sheriff Mike Ezell says after further investigation, the charges against Gillett were dismissed. However, they will be presented to a county grand jury for further consideration.

All of the suspects were jailed on $500,000 bond each. Eighteen-year-old Trevor Barron of Moss Point bonded out on January 6th.

The remaining four, Tykell Hollins, Derell Lett, both 18, Xavier Mitchell, 19, and 16-year-old Davionne Barnes remain jailed.
