CCA honors baseball and softball seniors who lost season due to COVID-19
It’s safe to say every high school on the Gulf Coast is finding a way to honor their spring athletes from the senior class of 2020 and tonight Christian Collegiate Academy is taking its turn by taking the diamond one last time.
A reunion more than two months in the making for the baseball and softball teams comprised of six Bulldogs: Brady Carrell, Casey Clanahan, Brandon Dear, Bryce King, Braden Martinelli, and Kameron Moffett, and then one Lady Bulldog Remington Cates-Lalley.
The joint senior night started with a photo-op on the baseball field before moving into the old gymnasium for the actual ceremony.
Not only a proper send-off for the players, but also for Head Baseball Coach Verlon Carrell who’s turned in his last line-up card for his Bulldogs on the move. “You cannot put words on that because you began working, and with our division in baseball we get to start earlier than your public high schools do, and so we’ve been going together since January every day practicing for three or four hours a day and spending time together and going to the batting cages afterwards and so forth, so we’ve built and got so close and then all of a sudden you’re torn apart. And so to be able to get back to see them tonight and to see their parents is just, I’ll give God the glory for that.”
Two of his players, Dear and Clanahan, will be going on to play at the next level with Faulkner University in Montgomery, Alabama.
We’ll hear from them in our full senior night story tomorrow at 9 and 10.
