Cat Island Fire

At approximately 4:45 this afternoon, Biloxi Fire Department, along with many other fire fighters, responded to a fire on the eastern end of Cat Island. Biloxi and Gulf Fire Departments, Coast Guard, and the DMR were all present on the scene of the fire.
Fire fighters tell News 25 that there seemed to be 6 acres on fire. The fire as of this evening was still to the east of any homes. There are three houses on the island but firefighters said that no one was in harm and keeping the people safe was their first concern.Battalion Chief Stephen Strickler said, “Around 16:45 hours this evening, we got a call to our dispatch from DMR requesting assistance at Cat Island for a large fire. A marsh fire was getting close to some large residence that are out there.”
At this time, they do not know the cause of the fire, but they are doing all they can do reduce the flames.
