Casino and state leaders working on reopening
As coronavirus restrictions loosen in the state of Mississippi, leaders from the state and the gaming industry are working on how the state’s casinos may be able to reopen.
Local casinos affiliated with the Mississippi Gaming and Hospitality Association have been in constant communication with the Mississippi Gaming Commission about reopening.
Scarlet Pearl CEO LuAnn Pappas says we could see casinos reopen by Memorial Day, but this is not definitive and could change at any moment.
In the meantime, Pappas says the Scarlet Pearl is preparing their dining facilities and casino floor to accommodate guests, such as rearranging dining tables, social distancing reminders at slots and gathering spaces, and even a thermal imaging scanner to screen guests as they enter. “We’re looking forward to getting back. All of our associates want to come back, and customers at this point. Anyone who wants to get out and wants to be able to start some degree of normalcy. Although we agree the new normal is going to be very different.”
Pappas is also encouraging employees and guests at high risk for contracting COVID-19 to refrain from visiting casinos until it is safer for them to do so.
