Casino employees to testify before Mississippi Gaming Commission about workplace conditions during pandemic

BILOXI, Miss. (WXXV) — Employees from the Beau Rivage Casino and IP Casino are set to testify before the Mississippi Gaming Commission virtually Thursday.

The employees plan to testify via Zoom about workplace conditions during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Fifteen workers between the Beau Rivage and IP Casnio have tested positive for COVID-19 since the casinos reopened. The casino workers’ union, Unite Here Local 23, says action is urgently needed.

The union is calling for daily cleaning of hotel rooms, stronger enforcement of safety guidelines including masking and social distancing in the casinos, and improved contact training.

IP Casino Room Attendant Carolyn Ford says, “Listen to what we have to say. We’re out there with the guests. They’re not out there, we’re out there. So, if a guest comes up to you without a mask on or whatever, you know, they’re not out there, we are.”
