CASA Volunteers Recognized

This morning, a Harrison County couple received an inaugural award for going above and beyond the call of duty to help abused and neglected children.
Billy and Ellen Alexander were presented with a resolution after receiving the Harrison County Youth Court’s first ever Above and Beyond Award.
In 2012, after being married for 40 years, the two became the first couple to serve as Court Appointed Special Advocates in Harrison County. The award recognizes them for spending countless hours as CASA volunteers advocating for children who found themselves in circumstances beyond their control.
“It’s just new to us and we appreciate it so much. We appreciate the court and everything they do for us. Judge Alfonso is the light at the end of our tunnel,” said Ellen Alexander.
"We need more CASA’s out there. There are so many children that are in need. We have a wonderful organization. As I stated, there’s only three on the Coast. We are the leaders, CASA that is, of working with the children in the state,” said Billy Alexander.
