Carla’s Closet is Accepting Donations

The Mississippi Department of Rehabilitation Services aims to make the job hunting process for its clients a little less stressful.
The Gulfport Location houses Carla’s Closet, a place that provides professional attire for individuals with disabilities who are transitioning into the work force. The closet is stocked with clothing, shoes, and accessories donated from members of the community and community partners.
The project is named after a MDRS employee who passed away from breast cancer in 2013. It serves individuals in Pearl River, Hancock, Stone, George, Harrison and Jackson counties. Regional Manager Kevin Bishop said, “Just to be able to step up with someone and walk that path with them and then to see the end results going to work. This is just a small part of that. If we can help them in having clothes to go to work, it does built that pride that we have in the job that we do.”
The closet accepts new and gently used clothing for men and women, but monetary donations and gift cards to retail outlets are preferred. You can make a donation to the facility any Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m.
