Carl Leggett Memorial Fishing Tournament

Soon anglers from across the Coast will be hitting the water looking for the biggest catch. The 22nd annual Carl Leggett Memorial Fishing Tournament will kick off this weekend.
Leggett, who passed away in 1995, was a Gulfport native, Air Force veteran and for 34 years he was a staple in the Home Builders Association, who now hold this tournament in his honor.
This year’s guaranteed tournament payout is well over $26,000 along with daily prizes.
Captains will gather for a meeting tomorrow night at the Golden Nugget then hit the waters on Friday, but the fishermen won’t be the only ones enjoying themselves this weekend. Tournament spokesperson Shelby Braun said, “The fishermen will go out fishing on Friday and that will go through Sunday. We’ll have the bikini contest on Saturday night and several events throughout. We’re going to have cookouts and shrimp boils. Just different things for people to enjoy if they’re not fishing.”
Weigh-ins for the tournament will be Friday and Saturday from 4 to 8 and Sunday from 2 to 5 at the Point Cadet Marina.
