Card skimmers reported at Harrison County gas stations

Last week, Jackson County officials warned the community about credit card skimmers after finding one at a local gas station.

Now, Harrison County residents are reporting they are also victims of the devices. One woman says her husband received a fraud alert after visiting the Shell gas station on Highway 49 and Creosote Road in Gulfport.

News 25 spoke to Sgt. Clayton Fulks with the Gulfport PD who gives us tips on how you can avoid becoming a victim of credit card skimmers. “Pull on the device where you swipe your card, if it comes loose or anything looks suspicious, go inside and alert the management at the store. You’re generally safer using your credit card inside the store where it’s less likely to encounter a skimming device. Check your card after you use it. If you notice any scratches or odd residue on your card that can be another sign of a skimmer. Keep watch on your bank account. If you see any fraudulent or suspicious charges contact your banking institutions and if it occurred in the City of Gulfport contact the Gulfport Police Department.”
