Camp Shelby Partners with MDOT

The Mississippi Department of Transportation has partnered with Camp Shelby for a project known as “Rails on Trails.”
Today, the Southern Transportation Commissioner Tom King and Colonel Greg Michel gave a presentation at Camp Shelby. King said the goal of this project is for pedestrians to have a safe and attractive environment as well as educational opportunities.
Eighty percent of the project will be funded by MDOT, which comes to about $400,000. Camp Shelby will be responsible for the remaining 20 percent.
Colonel Greg Michel said, “I envision this as being a complement to the already great amenities that we have here that contribute to health and wellness and fitness. So, I’m looking at it being able to complement those things as well as tie into the museum, to our fitness and taking in the nice nature opportunities that we have here at Camp Shelby.”
The total price for the project is about $500,000.
