Calling all Lifeguards
Summer is right around the corner and the City of Biloxi is looking for people interested in protecting lives.
If you’re 15-years-old or over and would like the chance to learn what it takes to become a lifeguard, the City of Biloxi will host a lifeguard pre-test this Wednesday and Thursday at 4 p.m. at the Biloxi natatorium. The test consists of knowing how to do several strokes, tread water for two minutes and retrieve a brick from the bottom of the pool.
Those who pass the pre-test will move on to a 40 hour course which is spread out over a week in order to get certified. City of Biloxi head lifeguard Danny Walton said, “Which you’ll get your CPR, your first-aid, your lifeguard, your AED and that is by the American Red Cross. You’ll be able to get employed at most of your aquatic facilities, you know, a casino, Keesler Air Force Base has a few pools, the City of Biloxi has a few pools, Gulfport has a few pools. It’s American Red Cross certification.”
Swimming lessons are also coming up. There are classes for all ages and skill level. For more information on swim lessons or the lifeguard certification, visit http://www.biloxi.ms.us/residents/parks-recreation/aquatics/.
