Busiest Day of the Year for Post Offices
Today is the busiest day of the year for post offices across the nation as many try to get gifts to their loved ones in time for Christmas.
The post office in Gulfport along Highway 49 was busy this morning as cars were filing into the parking lot all morning.
This holiday season, post offices expect to process and deliver nearly 16 billion cards, letters, and packages.
For the everyday person, getting gifts in the mail in time can be a hard one, but one Coast man says it’s even tougher for small business owners. Small business owner George Patterson said, “It’s definitely a challenge for me. We got a home based business so we make t-shirts. We got a lot of orders coming in right now. It’s a challenge to get stuff processed, packaged up and then get it to the post office. We got to get it in there because people have to get their gifts for the holidays.”
Deanna Swanier was mailing gifts early to avoid lines. She said, “It was quite easy this morning. The line wasn’t long, but I hate that I waited until the last minute to get it mailed.”
If you are waiting until the last minute to mail those gifts, here are the shipping deadlines you need to know:
Tuesday, December 20th for first class mail.
Wednesday, December 21st for priority mail.
Friday, December 23rd for priority mail express.
