Building permit issued for new grocery store in Ocean Springs

Four years after announcing that an Aldi grocery store would be making its home in Ocean Springs, is a step closer to starting construction.

A building permit for a $4 million in construction was issued for the grocery chain, which will put a 21,000 square foot store in at 3801 Bienville Blvd. on the east side of the city just west of Walmart, according to our media partner, Sun Herald.

City officials still don’t have a timetable for the opening. Aldi is waiting for a distribution center in Mobile to be finished before setting an opening date.

But the city is beginning improvements at Deana Drive, anticipating the extra traffic a fourth grocery store would bring to the area.

Aldi, when it opens, will join Rouses, Winn-Dixie and Walmart as grocery stores in Ocean Springs.

A sister store will open in Picayune on Mississippi 43 this year.
