Brittney Reese’s Mom in Rio de Janeiro
In the stands watching Gulfport native Brittney Reese jump her way to a silver medal was her biggest fan.
Reese’s mom is in Rio cheering her daughter on. News 25 caught up with Carla Young before she left for Rio and she told us she’s so proud about what her daughter has accomplished as well as the way she represents herself on and off the field.
Although Reese was unable to bring home another gold medal, her mother was able to see her jump her way onto the podium. “I’m like this here then I’ll sit back. I used to count her steps, but she’s gotten so fast. I can’t count her steps. When she was in high school and stuff I knew exactly how many steps she needed to hit that board, to hit it right. Now, she’s gotten so fast that I can’t count the steps anymore.”
Reese jumped 7.15 meters to earn the silver medal, just .02 meters short of fellow American Tianna Bartoletta for gold.
