BP oil spill funding applications

Members of the Gulf Coast Advisory Board are questioning how much authority they will really have in deciding which projects will be funded with the BP oil spill settlement money.

A citizen’s advisory board is preparing to accept applications, selecting projects the state could fund through 2033 to restore and revitalize the Coast after the 2010 oil spill. Applications are being selected from the public, nonprofit, and private sectors.

They will begin accepting applications June 1st. The application review process begins August 1st. MDA will complete scoring applications by August 31st.

With input from the committee, they will finalize their list of recommended projects by mid-November. On December 1st, the MDA will submit the list to the legislature.
