BP Money Will Arrive to State on Friday
The first installment of BP money is finally making its way to the state. Mississippi is set to receive $150 million from the oil giant on Friday.
$46 million of that money has already been included into the budget which starts tomorrow and the remaining money will sit in reserves until the legislature decides what to do with it. Coast lawmakers tell News 25 they do not expect another special session to be called.
In total, over the next 17 years, Mississippi will receive $2.2 billion with $750 million of that allocated by the state legislature. This will be where the fight begins. Coast legislatures have pledged to do whatever they can to keep that money on the Coast with Governor Bryant echoing that sentiment.
Our local lawmakers fear they will not have the support from the majority in the capitol who feel the money should be used for other things statewide.
