Body Identified As Missing Kayaker
A body found near long beach harbor on Friday has been identified as that of a missing kayaker.
According to Harrison County coroner Gary Hargrove the victim was 43-year-old Wilberto Mendoza of Long Beach.
Rescue crews went to the area Friday after a passer-by noticed a dog swimming in the water.
They found an empty kayak nearby and, later, they found the body.
The cause of death has been listed as drowning and the case has been ruled accidental.
According to Hargrove Mendoza was not wearing a life jacket.
He says that was a major contributing factor in the death.
