Bodies of Missing Boaters Found

Authorities have identified the two boaters found dead this morning, after a fishing trip in Jackson County.
According to the Jackson County Sheriff’s Department, 69-year-old Screano Hilton and 72-year-old Butch Moran left early yesterday morning on a fishing trip out of San Juan Marina in Vancleave. The boat was discovered in the marsh north of the I-10 Bridge over the Pascagoula River. The bodies were found in the same vicinity. It is believed that their boat struck an object that caused them to be thrown out. Neither victim was wearing a life vest.
Lieutenant Barry Delcambre with the Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks said, “It was a small boat with 25 horsepower and in that area, it is common for the water to be low and especially this time of year for the water to be low and the possibility of hitting objects in the Pascagoula River.”
Jackson County Sheriff Mike Ezell said, “At this time, we’re just trying to put the pieces together so we can complete the investigation.”
The Mississippi Department of Wildlife and Fisheries, the Jackson County Sheriff’s Department and the Department of Marine Resources all assisted in the search.
