Boater who died in crash in Old Fort Bayou identified

The Department of Marine Resources recovered a body from Old Fort Bayou in St. Martin this morning after a one-vessel crash.

DMR confirmed the Friday morning incident. Officials said the boat, carrying one person, hit a structure at the mouth of the bayou.

Jackson County Coroner Bruce Lynd Jr. identified the victim as 39-year-old Robert Fishman of Ocean Springs.

Lynd said DMR received a call about an unmanned boat in the bayou about 10:22 p.m. Thursday, but were not able to find the boater until 8:02 a.m. Friday morning.

Fishman was brought back in to the boat launch near Mikey’s on the Bayou on Washington Avenue.
