Blood needed across the Coast at the Blood Center

The Blood Center is in urgent need of all blood types.

Blood Centers nationwide have reported declines in blood collections in recent weeks. Some have reported their lowest donor turnout in more than a year.

These trends are concerning as both patients and Blood Centers depend on the altruism of donors to ensure that blood is available for life-saving treatments.

On the Coast, the community blood supply is nearly depleted and there is an urgent need for Type O. Coastal Region Coordinator Gina Necaise said, “We have had several trauma situations at our service area hospitals and we just aren’t seeing people come out to donate like we usually do. O is the universal donor so we just have a very urgent need for that blood type.”

Those looking to give blood can give blood at the Gautier Donor Center on Highway 90 on Sunday and Wednesday from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m.
