Blood donations needed following Florence

Residents along the East Coast continue clean up from Hurricane Florence and now the American Red Cross is asking for more than monetary donations.

Over the next several weeks, there will be blood drives held across the Gulf Coast after over 200 drives had to be cancelled on the East Coast because of Florence. This afternoon, the first of many drives was held at the Edgewater Mall in Biloxi.

Residents from across the Coast lined up to give blood. Some knowing all too well the importance of helping others. Gulfport resident Deborah Deviney said, “I have family in Texas, in the Houston area, and that last hurricane that went through there it was devastating because of the water. I have friends that have gone through Katrina so everybody needs to pull together.”

Tomorrow’s blood drive takes place at the Hancock Whitney Bank in downtown Gulfport from noon until 5 p.m.
