Blessing of the Fleet

The annual Blessing of the Fleet and Shrimp Festival poster unveiling took place tonight at the Biloxi Visitors Center.

The artists of this year’s poster, Tonya Hebert, is a self-taught local artist whose work was chosen by a Mississippi Arts Commission judging panel to be featured in bronze on the Biloxi-Ocean Springs Bridge.  The 2018 Shrimp King and owner of CF Gollott and Son’s Seafood Arnie Gollot was also recognized.

This is the 89th Blessing of the Fleet sponsored by St. Michael Catholic Church in Biloxi. Father Greg Barras tells News 25 the meaning of this celebration. “It’s a deep awareness of what has been given to us that took centuries and centuries and centuries to create and to grow. It’s a deep sense of community because we can’t do it by ourselves, but we can do it together. It’s a deep sense of calling the government to help us maintain and it’s us challenging each other as neighbors to take care of the water.”

This year’s Blessing of the Fleet takes place June 2nd and 3rd at Point Cadet Plaza in Biloxi.
