Blessing of the Fleet poster unveiling

The 90th annual Blessing of the Fleet is just a few weeks away and they are celebrating a huge milestone.

Biloxi’s Blessing of the Fleet is celebrating 90 years of shrimping heritage on the Coast. This year’s Blessing will happen on June 2nd with the Fais do-do on Saturday.

Tonight, Biloxians gathered together for the unveiling of the 2019 poster which portrays a beautiful display of the shrimp boats and how the blessing ties in their faith.

For the shrimp king and queen it’s all about the heritage behind the historic Biloxi event. 2019 Shrimp King Mark Kopszywa said, “My great-grandfather came from Poland in 1904 and I am just continuing the legacy of the family and it means a lot that my son can see the legacy of his family and his last name and the history of Biloxi.”

2018 Shrimp Queen Sarah Gatlin said, “You learn something new every day and just the fact that you can learn about your family and what they contributed to this community is just amazing.”

The 2019 queen will be crowned on the second day of the festivities after the Shrimp Pageant on June 2nd. News 25’s Taylor Rubach will be a judge for this year’s pageant.
