Ryan Mahan

Chief Meteorologist

Email Ryan

Ryan is a born and bred southerner.  He was born in Tennessee, raised in Arkansas, graduated high school in Mississippi, and earned his bachelor’s degree at USA in Mobile, Alabama.  He found his passion for weather after walking the MS Gulf Coast the day after Hurricane Katrina while taking photos of the devastation it left behind.  He knew in those moments that he wanted to find a way to help those he cared about avoid disasters such as Katrina in the future.

Ryan has been a meteorologist for over a decade.  He spent the first seven years of his career as the evening meteorologist at WXXV before waking up the Pine Belt as the morning meteorologist for the last few years at WDAM. He’s happy to be back home on the Gulf Coast to serve his family, friends, and community again.  While he loves bringing the general public information on their local forecast or guiding them through severe weather events, his favorite part of the job is his community appearances, so look for him at your local elementary school, science fair, or talent show, because he’s bound to show up eventually!

Ryan is married to Mandy Mahan.  Together they have one precious son who will likely talk your ear off.  They are members of St. Mary Catholic Church in Woolmarket.  In his spare time, Ryan loves to nerd out with his family.  On any given weekend they can be found watching Star Wars shows or movies, playing video games, or building LEGO sets. And while Ryan may look dapper in his bow ties on Fridays, don’t be shocked when you see him out and about in cargo shorts and a cheesy graphic tee, because he loves to keep it casual!
