Biloxi VA hosts third annual Walk-a-Thon

The Biloxi VA combined fitness with strengthening its patients centered care partnerships through their third annual Walk-a-Thon event.
This year, participants donned pink in support of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Participants were encouraged to make a non-monetary pledge of support during the event. The walk started at the veteran’s canteen store following a route to the Pass Road entrance and back for a total of 2.8 miles with some encouraging and informative messages along the way. Transformation Coordinator Mary Nelson said, “We’re just trying to encourage veterans and families to read our signs as well as the employees. We have signs along the walkway that talk about being positive, providing consistent, exceptional veterans experience, building trust and confidence and just signs to just enhance the veteran’s experience.”
Participants of last year’s Walk-a-Thon wore purple in support of domestic violence awareness. For more information on the Va’s PCC program visit www.va.gov/patientcenteredcare/index.asp.
