Biloxi superintendent reports gun discovered at high school in student’s backpack

Biloxi Schools superintendent Marcus Boudreaux sent an email to parents on Tuesday morning informing them that a gun was found in a student’s backpack.

The email says no threats were made and the weapon was not exposed. It was discovered during a search of the student on another matter.

Boudreaux said the student will be disciplined according to school district policy.

Last week, a Biloxi middle school student and a high school student were caught playing with a gun while waiting at a school bus stop.

“I am reaching out this morning in full transparency,” Boudreaux began the email that described the events of the morning. “Parents and community members, I urge you to have meaningful conversations with your children to discuss the severity and danger of these activities.

“We must work as a team to provide a safe school environment.   Please take some time today to talk to your child about the importance of always reporting potentially dangerous situations.”

Boudreaux went on to say that the only way to combat that kind of behavior is through safety education at home and at school.

“Thank you for working with us to keep our students and staff safe.”
