Biloxi Shuckers Schedule Exhibition Game with William Carey
As far as Biloxi Shuckers exhibition games go, it’s going to be hard to top last year’s match up against the Milwaukee Brewers, the first Major League Baseball team to play in Biloxi since 1938.
This year, the Shuckers will play host to William Carey University, an announcement made today by the Biloxi Double A affiliate. The April 4th affair is certainly worth the price of admission with all net proceeds going directly towards the Hattiesburg tornado relief effort.
William Carey Athletic Director D.J. Pulley tells News 25 that many students lost all of their personal belonging on January 21st and that these funds will help fill that void.
As for the Shuckers, General Manager Chuck Arnold says this game is something that’s been in the works for several weeks. “In the planning stages when the tornado hit up there and we saw the destruction, it was a no-brainer for us to reach out to them, and thought it was a great opportunity to not only serve the purpose of getting some at-bats in before the season, but also to be able to give back to William Carey and to help in the recovery efforts.”
“To have the opportunity to go down to MGM, play the Shuckers, there’s the potential for even more funds to come in which they’re all going to be needed. It’s a huge need right now. And as far as on a sporting front for the kids to, I personally was very, very excited for Coach Halford,” said Pulley.
Bobby Halford is entering his 32nd season as head coach at William Carey. He won career game number 1,000 back in February 2015.
The Shuckers and Crusaders will play ball at 6:35 on April 4th. It will be a seven inning game with wooden bats. Tickets are $7.
