Biloxi Shuckers ready for opening day
Tomorrow, the Biloxi Shuckers will take the field for opening day in the Southern League.
The Shuckers will host the Birmingham Barons at 6:35 tomorrow night at MGM Park. Manager Mike Guerrero is heading into his fourth year with the Milwaukee Brewers Double-A affiliate.
Last night, Biloxi hosted its third annual exhibition game against William Carey, a 15-1 win over the Crusaders.
The Shuckers have graduated a lot of their top prospects to start 2019, but opening day is always a special time at the ball park for both the returning veterans and newcomers alike. Outfielder Trent Grisham said, “Really excited. I mean Opening Day is probably one of the best days of the year. That, and getting in to the playoffs. So I’m really excited.”
Pitcher Daniel Brown said, “Oh. It’s big time, big time. Finally getting out of spring training and playing some real competitive baseball.”
Second baseman Blake Allemand said, “Yeah, I mean I’m excited. We’ve been playing spring training games, games that don’t really mean anything. Kind of practicing for the last month and a half, I’m ready to fire it up and play someone where it counts. Kind of get the season going. Hopefully we have another good year like we did last year, and I’m excited to get it going.”
The Shuckers won both the first and second half Southern League regular season titles last season.
