Biloxi Shuckers Opening Day postponed
After more than six months in between games for the Biloxi Shuckers, what’s waiting one more day for Opening Day at MGM Park?
Tonight’s season opener against the Birmingham Barons was postponed due to rain, leaving the Shuckers with a seven-inning doubleheader for tomorrow instead.
It’s not all bad, getting two games for the price of one, plus post-game fireworks to cap off the return of Shuckers baseball.
Despite the opening day tease from the baseball gods, Biloxi Shuckers Assistant Broadcaster Andrew Chapman was quick to find some silver lining in the 23-hour delay. “These players have been in Arizona at spring training and their different training facilities, different countries, getting ready for the season and you’re not able to get it in tonight but you know that you’re going to hopefully play baseball tomorrow. So the blessing in disguise is that not only as the front office do we get to make sure everything goes off perfectly tomorrow, but also for some of these players, they get to hang out in the clubhouse a little bit more, get to know some of their teammates that they just met a couple of days ago coming into Biloxi. And then you go and take a couple of extra swings in the cage or a couple of extra tosses on the inside pitcher’s mound and you get ready for tomorrow and you hope you play baseball.”
Tickets for tomorrow’s game are now good for both games. Tickets for tonight’s game are also good for both games tomorrow, but they must be exchanged at the box office first.
Game one of the twin-bill starting tomorrow at 5:35, the Shuckers and Barons will go seven innings and then fire it up for game two.
The pitching rotation should still line up just the same with Marcos Diplan starting the first game followed by Trey Supak.
