Biloxi Shuckers Javier Betancourt shot in Venezuela, flown to United States for surgery
If you’re ever been to a Biloxi Shuckers game one of the biggest smiles you’ll see come out of the dugout is that of Javier Betancourt. Today, he needs your smiles in the worst way.
Yesterday, Minorleaguebaseball.com reported Betancourt was shot in his native Venezuela on Friday following an argument with an unknown individual.
He was then flown into Milwaukee to treat his wounds, having sustained injuries to his left elbow. Prayers go out to Betancourt, his family and friends, and special thoughts from WXXV after he caught our first pitch last season.
Betancourt is 22-years-old and has spent the last two years in Biloxi.
