Biloxi P.D. Seeks National Accreditation

The Biloxi Police Department is one of many state accredited law enforcement agencies in Mississippi. Now, they’re gunning for national accreditation.
Every three years, an inspection team comes to check out the department to make sure everything is up to par to more than 100 standards. Everything from citizen complaints, ethics policies to evidence room management is thoroughly examined.
The agency is beginning the process to apply for national accreditation that will put them up to nearly 200 standards. They say it’s a lengthy process but an important one. Patrol Commander Major Jim Adamo said, “I think it’s very important because there’s a lot of scrutiny when it comes to law enforcement. I think from an external perspective we can say to the community, we just don’t think we’re excellent law enforcement agency providing an excellent service to our community, we have independent investigators that come in from outside our agency and do an independent audit and can say the same thing.”
The Biloxi Police Department had its most recent inspection last week. Officials say they’re waiting on the final report but had positive feedback and expect to be re-accredited for the third time since they first started the process in 2008.
