Biloxi opposes Harrison County school bond

The Biloxi City Council opposes the $55 million bond for new schools in Harrison County.

The City of Biloxi wants to slow down and look at feasible alternatives regarding the bond. Biloxi Mayor FoFo Gilich wants to look at how this will affect residents without children. Gilich also wants to look at residents with children who may have to pay extra to attend these schools.

The city council wants to see if accommodations can be made for those who will not attend the new schools in Harrison County. Vincent Creel with the City of Biloxi said, “Instead of rushing to a bond issue, where we only have 42 days’ notice, let’s look at the alternative. There could be a way we could move forward here that would save everybody money that would deal with security and deal with overcrowding.”

Gulfport City Council also voted to delay any construction concerning the bond.
